About Anne

Anne Shoemaker is a nationally experienced literacy leader, educator, and consultant with nearly five decades in education. Her passion for literacy began the moment she learned to read—a love that shaped her career and continues to drive her work supporting educators and students across the country. Anne brings both deep expertise and a powerful personal narrative to her speaking, connecting research, practice, and purpose.

A defining moment early in her career transformed Anne’s approach to literacy instruction. While teaching fourth-grade students labeled as “low readers,” she challenged traditional expectations by implementing rich, novel-based instruction typically reserved for advanced learners. The results were transformative: student engagement increased, behavior issues declined, confidence soared, and literacy skills flourished across reading, speaking, listening, and writing. This experience cemented her belief that all students deserve access to high-quality, meaningful literacy experiences.

Anne has taught diverse learners across grade levels and throughout the United States and has served as a Professional Learning Consultant for three major curriculum companies. These experiences strengthened her understanding of how literacy develops over time and how every educator—at every grade level—plays a critical role in student success.

As the Founder and CEO of ASE Consulting, Anne partners with schools, districts, and organizations to lead literacy transformation, support instructional coherence, and strengthen school culture. Her speaking engagements inspire educators to rethink literacy systems, reclaim their impact, and implement practical strategies that lead to sustainable improvement. Anne’s presentations are known for being engaging, grounded in real classroom experience, and deeply motivating.
